How BGSA Caddy Works
-
Reads the Course
The moment you step onto a hole, BGSA Caddy locks onto your GPS position and loads the hole layout — green coordinates, front, center and back distances, par, stroke index, wind speed and direction, temperature and altitude. Everything a real caddy knows before you even pull a club.
-
Atlas Recommends the Shot
Tap Ask Atlas and your AI caddy goes to work. Atlas analyses your distance to the green, the wind, altitude adjustment, and your exact bag — then tells you which club to hit, where to aim, and how to play the shot. No guessing. No second-guessing.
-
Tracks Your Round
Every Atlas recommendation automatically logs your shot — distance, club, hole, GPS position. No extra tapping. By the time you finish 18 holes, Atlas has a complete picture of your game ready for post-round coaching.
-
Coaches You After
The post-round coaching report breaks down your round hole by hole. Strengths, weaknesses, club gaps, training recommendations — all based on your actual data from that round. Export it, share it with your coach, or listen to it on the drive home.

- Your personal golf pro, always available Golf Game Formats — How to Play & Score
BGSA Caddy supports 11 different golf formats. Here's how each one works and how scoring is calculated. All handicaps are applied automatically — you just play.
Stroke Play
The most common format. Every shot counts. Add up your total shots for the round. Lowest total score wins. Handicap version: subtract your course handicap from your gross score to get your net score.
Stableford
Points-based scoring. You earn points on each hole based on your net score versus par. Double bogey or worse = 0 points. Bogey = 1 point. Par = 2 points. Birdie = 3 points. Eagle = 4 points. Most points at the end wins. Great format because a bad hole doesn't ruin your round.
Match Play
Head-to-head. You play against one opponent, hole by hole. Win a hole and you go 1 up. Lose a hole and you go 1 down. Halve a hole and it stays the same. First player to be more holes up than there are holes remaining wins. e.g. 3&2 means 3 up with 2 to play.
Skins
Each hole is worth a skin (and its value). Lowest score on a hole wins the skin. If two or more players tie, the skin carries over to the next hole making it worth more. Most skins at the end wins. Great for groups of 2–4.
Bogey / Par
You play against the course (par) as your opponent. Win a hole (net birdie or better) = +1. Halve a hole (net par) = 0. Lose a hole (net bogey or worse) = -1. Your running score shows how you stand against the course.
Betterball (BB)
Team format for 4 players (2 teams of 2). Each player plays their own ball. On each hole, the best net score from each team counts. The team with the better score wins the hole. Most holes won at the end wins. Handicap: 85% of each player's course handicap.
Greensome
Team format for 2 players. Both partners drive on every hole. The team picks the best drive. Both players then play a second shot from that position. The team picks the best second shot, then alternate from there to the hole. Handicap: 60% of the lower handicap partner plus 40% of the higher handicap partner.
Chapman
Team format for 2 players. Both partners drive. Players swap balls and both play the second shot. The team then picks the best second shot and alternate from there all the way to the hole. Handicap: 50% of each player's handicap combined.
Scramble Drive (2 Player)
Popular South African social format. Both players drive. Pick the best drive. Both players play their second shot from that spot. From the second shot, each player plays their own ball to the hole. Best score of the two counts. Handicap: 35% of lower + 15% of higher handicap.
Scramble Drive (4 Player / Foursomes)
Same as 2-player Scramble Drive but for a group of 4. All four players drive. Pick the best drive. All four play their second shot from that spot. Each player plays their own ball from there. Best score of the four counts. Ideal for club fun days and corporate golf.
Full Scramble
The most popular social format in South Africa. All players drive, pick the best. All play from that spot, pick the best again. Repeat every shot all the way to the hole — every single shot, the best one counts. One team score per hole. No individual scores. Pure team golf. Handicap: 20% of each player's handicap averaged across the team.
